Holidays are over and company has all gone home – time to indulge! And just in time ~ this is the last week to take in the fabulous Marc Chagall exhibit in Toronto. This must-see exhibit of his magical, whimsical and wonderful art is just one aspect of the exciting trip we have planned. We’ll visit Casa Loma, the Gardiner Museum and the Royal Ontario Museum, with optional evening performances and plenty of time to shop the January sales. January 10, 2012 Early morning departure for Toronto from the National Gallery of Canada. Lunch at the Gardiner Café, tucked into the alcove on the third floor of the Museum where chef Jamie Kennedy presents a fresh and simple lunch. Guided tour at the Gardiner Museum, the only museum in Canada devoted exclusively to ceramic art, before transferring to our hotel. Check in at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, Toronto’s landmark hotel, right in the heart of it all, steps away from the best nightlife, dining, shopping and other attractions. Conveniently located across from Union Station, the Royal York is connected by the underground PATH Walkway to approximately 1200 shops, services and attractions. January 11, 2012 Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the Art Gallery of Ontario for a guided tour of the exhibit: Chagall and the Russian Avant-Garde: Masterpieces from the Collection of the Centre Pompidou-Paris, featuring the lush, colourful, and dreamlike art of Marc Chagall alongside the visionaries of Russian modernism, including Wassily Kandinsky, Kasimir Malevich, Natalia Goncharova, Sonia Delaunay, and Vladimir Tatlin. Lunch at FRANK, the new AGO restaurant, a distinct Frank Gehry-designed space. Its casual, chic décor includes modern Danish furnishings and a contemporary installation of Frank Stella's work. After lunch, transfer to Casa Loma, Toronto’s most romantic historic mansion. Step back in time to a period of European elegance and splendour. The former home of Canadian financier Sir Henry Pellatt, Canada's foremost castle is complete with decorated suites, secret passages, an 800-foot tunnel, towers and stables. Return to hotel. January 12, 2012 Breakfast at the hotel and check out. Transfer to the Royal Ontario Museum for a guided tour at one of the world’s leading museums of natural history, and of world cultures. Lunch at c5, located atop the world-renowned Michael Lee-Chin Crystal. In its May 2008 issue, Food & Wine Magazine listed c5 as one of their worldwide “10 Best Restaurants with a View.” Return to Ottawa after lunch.
