Lunch at the Library. Remainder of afternoon free to enjoy the New York you love best. This evening, transfer to Avery Fisher Hall for our New York Philharmonic performance featuring conductor Daniel Harding and violinist Joshua Bell, named 2010 Instrumentalist of the Year by Musical America. For more than two decades, Joshua Bell has enchanted audiences worldwide with his breathtaking virtuosity and tone of rare beauty. His restless curiosity and multifaceted musical interests have earned him the rare title of “classical music superstar.” The program will include Robert Schuman’s Manfred Overture; Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 35 (1878) and Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring) (1911-13) 369. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 10 Full Day at Leisure This is the best time of the year to catch the important art exhibits – the list of New York museums is endless. Morning motorcoach transportation to the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum, the Guggenheim and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. This afternoon, we suggest an optional matinée performance at the Metropolitan Opera at 1 p.m. Faust will be conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, with Marina Poplavskaya, Michele Losier, Jonas Kaufmann, Russell Braun and René Pape. This evening, transfer to the Vivian Beaumont Theatre for a performance of the thrillingly unique War Horse, a “landmark theatre event” which features seven-foot puppet horses manipulated by three human performers. War Horse centers on the relationship between English teenager Albert, and his beloved half-thoroughbred horse, Joey who has been sold to the cavalry as the war begins in 1914. Three years later, Albert runs away to join the army, determined to find Joey and bring him home. Meanwhile, this smart and brave horse is pulled into service on both sides of the conflict before being left on his own in no-man’s-land, surrounded by trenches and barbed wire. Transfer back to hotel following the performance. SUNDAY, DECEMBER 11 Morning free to attend church services, stroll along the Avenues, or to do some last-minute shopping. Depart the hotel for Ottawa at 1:30 PM. A supper stop will be made enroute. Arrive in Ottawa at about 10:30 p.m. Executive Worldwide Travel is pleased to announce that this tour will be escorted by Director Jean Sheikh and Rob Clipperton, retired CBC radio broadcast journalist. A host of numerous radio programs during his tenure of more than 28 years with CBC, Rob is a recipient of the Ottawa Mayor’s Award for Community Service for his many voluntary hours devoted to taking the arts, particularly classical music, to urban and rural audiences. |
